Salvation is Not an Insurance Policy

I recently heard of someone who said they saw "salvation" as an insurance policy. This makes what Jesus did for us sound like a business deal or transaction, if you will. True, he did pay a price, but he didn't die so we could just make it to heaven. He died so that we could have life on earth and have it abundantly. John 10:10 "the thief comes only in order to steal, kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).

I've also had people tell me that they want to live their lives the way they want; no responsibility, no repercussions, no accountability. They've said they don't believe they should have to answer to God, or anyone else because it's their life. However, they did add that when they near the end of their life they'll get saved, "just to be safe."

Obviously, neither of these scenarios reveals whether or not the person with those views even believes in God; in some cases, they don't. What's truly fascinating, is that if those with the above views don't believe in God, why then, are they seeking "insurance"? The mere views themselves reveal that they do believe, to some degree, that He exists or they would not be concerned about playing it safe. What puzzles me, are those same people will fight to the death to refute God is real. Which is it? You can't not believe he's real, yet still want Him to save you in the end.

Now, God's grace is inexhaustible. We can't take advantage of the grace of God; One, He can't be taken advantage of because He's God. Two, he's not holding a certain amount for us and when we use it all up, that's it. Because of His mercy and grace, if we chose to carry out those options above, He would still save us. However, it's about the heart. You don't get to heaven just because you said the "sinners prayer". The question is; is your heart motivation genuine? Romans 10:9 "if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."
