You Thought He Came to Bring Peace?

In a magazine with the feature story entitled "Christianity: Good or Bad for America?", one of the debaters (a non-believer) posed the question "If Jesus came to bring peace, why are there people killing people?" Ultimately, we know that Jesus is peace, but He is very clear that what He came to do was stir things up!

Anytime you have someone in your family who is following God to an extreme degree, it's going to be controversial. There's no choice but for there to be severe conflict, especially if other members of your family aren't believers and don't know Christ. Even the ones who ARE saved may potentially see you as crazy. You'll likely be consistently told that you want something for nothing, that you're lazy, that you have a wild imagination, or to get your head out of the clouds; but the Lord created visionaries for a reason; to see the bigger picture, and He knew they'd be bold enough to go through whatever it takes to carry it out!

It's not common for believers today to dedicate their entire lives, leaving everything behind to serve Christ, like they did in Matthew 4; Peter and Andrew left their nets, and James and John immediately left their boats AND their fathers. One thing you can absolutely bank on is that if you are following the Lord and trusting Him on an uncommon level, don't expect your family to support it. Even Jesus' family didn't understand Him at the age of 12 when He said, "Didn't you know I'd be about my father's business?"

Jesus knew exactly what we'd experience; He told us in Matthew 10:34-36 “Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.”
