Recently I saw an article posted on Facebook, regarding the CEO of Starbucks, who stated if anyone supports traditional marriages over gay marriages, they don't want your business. I thought this was a little odd; as typically it's the customers who don't want to do business with the company, not the other way around. This sparked a theory I've had for years, regarding logical questions geared towards you; the consumers who stop spending money at businesses because of what they support...
I understand having passion for something, or in some cases against something, so strongly that you don't want to be an enabler; whether by donation or by purchasing products & services. By going to such extremes, are you doing so out of genuine passion, or are you trying to make a political statement? Most people, possibly including yourself, typically only become actively against a business if it's been plastered in the media. I would imagine it's probably easier to take a stand against someone who's gone public, but how many other companies are there that you DON'T know about, who support your disbeliefs?
Where do you pump your gas; do you know if they donate revenue to terrorism? What about the grocery store where you get your food, how does their CEO feel about premarital sex? The Post Office; does its manager dabble in witchcraft or do the employees at the restaurant where you ate last night participate in gang fights? And your favorite little outdoor, organic market; do the harvesters run themselves dope deals on the side for extra cash? Do you research every retail shop, fitness center, ice cream parlor, nail salon, Dr.'s office, or women's boutique to determine whether or not you should do business with them, based on their moral views? No, you don't. You don't ask Charming Charlies their view on anything because they have pretty things and you like to buy them. How many of you have either changed hair stylists, or avoided one, because they were homosexual? In case you were unaware, taking your money away from them, isn't going to "convert" them. Just like it's a company's business to support whom they please, it's your business whom you choose to do business with. However, if you were to question all the head honchos in every place you ever went, you'd likely end up not going anywhere, and not getting anything from anybody.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Ultimately, our walk as Christians is about our relationship with Christ. Instead of walking away from establishments because you disagree with their beliefs, have you ever considered that maybe God WANTS you in those places? That perhaps it's not about where YOU feel you should spend your money, but it's about where GOD wants you, so you can talk to people about Jesus? Boycotting with your money won't solve the problems. We wrestle not against flesh and blood...
