When women are asked the question, "Why do you love your husband?", their responses are similar; "Because he works hard, he makes a good income and provides for our family." When men are asked, "What makes you a good husband?", they typically respond with "I work hard to pay the bills, put a roof over my family's head and put food on the table." There is certainly nothing wrong with working to bring home the bacon...IF that's what God tells you to do...
Some men feel "less than" if the Lord hasn't allowed them to get a job or a promotion. When in all actuality, the very reason you're at your job to begin with, isn't for the sole purpose of making money; it's because someone there needs you or perhaps you need them. In my article "It's Not About the Work, It's About His Will", I talk about how it's all about following the Lord's instruction. If that includes getting a job, then so be it, but that's not the only way the Lord provides.
When you fully submit to following the Lord's will for your life, he will tell you what he wants for you, he will show you where he wants you to go. Don't become fearful if you haven't found work, or if things haven't picked up at the office. It's not about what you're doing or even your circumstances, the faith progression is the same, trust the Lord. If you have nothing, trust him. When you have what the world considers everything, those things aren't your provision either and you still should trust the Lord. Your job may not even mean you receive a weekly paycheck, but the Lord will still provide by whatever means he sees fit; through other people, typically members of the body of Christ.
The truth is, God is your provision, he is the one who provides for you and he will do so in whatever way HE wants to; his resources are inexhaustible. So no matter what your "job" is, whether you're called to work in corporate America or called to be a modern day disciple, the Lord is your provision and he will provide for all of your needs. Believe it or not, he'll even give you the desires of your heart...when your first true desire is to follow him.
